Booking a Portrait Sitting with John Christopher Studio

My studio is designed for one thing: timeless black and white portraiture.

Sessions are unhurried, collaborative, and focused on creating portraits you’ll actually want to live with for years.

Below is a clear breakdown of how bookings, sitting fees, and portrait purchases work.

How It Works

1. Reserve your sitting
Choose a studio time that works for you and complete your booking. The sitting fee reserves the studio, my time, and preparation for your session.

2. Your portrait session
We’ll photograph a range of looks and expressions. I don’t limit you to a “mini” or a quick headshot slot – once you’re in the studio, we do the work properly.

3. Select and purchase your portraits
After your sitting, you’ll receive a proofing gallery. You only purchase the finished portraits you love, individually.

Sitting Fees

Session fee does not include any portraits or digital files.

Individual Portrait Sitting
For one person – artists, professionals, actors, creatives.
$895

Two-Person Portrait Sitting
For couples, partners, close collaborators.
$1,095

Family Portrait Sitting (3–6 people)
For families or small groups. Includes time for individual and group portraits as needed.
$1,495

The standard sitting fee is collected at booking. For two-person and family sittings, any additional balance is invoiced following your session and settled before your proofing gallery is delivered.

Sitting fees cover studio time, lighting design, preparation, and the creation of your proofing gallery. Portraits are purchased separately on a per-image basis.

Portrait Pricing

You only purchase the portraits you love.

Portraits are $150 each
Each selected portrait includes:

  • A fully finished file, crafted in my signature black and white

  • A color version of the same image, if desired

  • Careful, natural retouching

  • High-resolution file suitable for print and professional use

There are no packages to choose from and no “almost fits the bundle” math.
If you love 3 portraits, you buy 3. If you love 9, you buy 9.

Family Portraits (3–6 people)

Timeless group and individual portraits created during a single family sitting.

After your session

  • You’ll receive a proofing gallery of the strongest images from our time together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why aren’t images included in the sitting fee?
Separating the sitting fee from portrait purchases keeps everything simple and transparent. The sitting fee covers the time, expertise, and studio resources required to create the work. You then purchase only the portraits you truly love, one by one.

Is this just for headshots, or do you also do “real” portraits?
Both. Many clients come in for a “headshot” and leave with something much more – portraits with depth and presence they can use across personal and professional contexts. The pricing stays the same either way.

Do you photograph in color?
All work is created with black and white in mind. That said, I can provide a color version of each purchased portrait at no additional charge. The look and feel remain consistent and intentional.

What do people typically invest?
This varies. Some clients need just a couple of portraits; others build out a deeper set for personal branding, acting, or family archives.
As a general range, most clients invest between their sitting fee and an additional selection of portraits based on how many they fall in love with.

How do I schedule?
Use the booking link on this page to choose a studio time.
Once your sitting fee is paid, your reservation is confirmed and the time is held exclusively for you.

Non-Refundable Sitting Fee

The sitting fee is non-refundable. If an unforeseen circumstance arises, one complimentary reschedule is accommodated. A second reschedule will require a new sitting fee.
